Easter 2023 date and the meaning

Easter 2023 will be celebrated on April 9, and is one of the most important days in Christianity that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. The date of Easter changes every year because it determined by the vernal equinox and the full moon. The vernal equinox is the day when day and night are the same length, which falls on March 20 or 21 in the Gregorian calendar. A full moon occurs when the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth, and falls between the 15th and 17th of the lunar month.

Easter is celebrated on the Sunday immediately following the first full moon after the vernal equinox. For example, in 2023, the vernal equinox is March 21, and the nearest full moon is April 5. Easter would then fall on the Sunday of that week, April 9. On the other hand, the vernal equinox in 2024 is March 20, and the nearest full moon is March 24. Easter would then fall on March 31, the Sunday of that week. The method for calculating the date of Easter established at the Council of Nicaea in 325. The council decided that Easter would be celebrated on the Sunday immediately following the first full moon after the vernal equinox. This has since become a commitment of the global church.
